When passing all the tests just isn’t enough….

The fish tank has been going well, perhaps we have a little too much Algae (it drives Lisa up the wall) I’m not certain we have a problem. But anyhow, it was time to give our home chemical testing kit a run for its money. After 3 tests at our Aquarium (Lucky Ocean in Inner Richmond) which we ‘passed’, here’s the results of our own test: Starting off with pH, target 8.3 | Perfect! | | | Ammonia, target 0 | Definitely a lighter colour than 0… | | | Nitrite, target 0 | Perfect! | | | Nitrate | Perfect! | | | Conclusion, we passed with flying colours, for first time time fish tank owners we were very pleased…. and then…. Our Clownfish started looking a little weird, it looked like he had a hole in his head. And my diagnostic was absolutely correct, he had HIHH (Hole in the Head), a common disease for fish in captivity :( Despite some well intentioned aims to buy a different food and give him a fresh water bath, on Sunday our first Clownfish died! |
